Position Paper: Competitiveness of the Malaysia's Labor Market; Issues and Recommendations
Part 1: Minimum Wage
Compensation and wages should be driven by the market forces based on supply and demand and the company's strategy of compensation. Market forces will make companies more productive, improve costs and be competitive for their own business survival. From our own surveys and data, basic wages do not reflect the benefits and other cash incentives and allowances given out.
If Malaysia is to adopt a minimum wage system, we recommend that a national minimum wage be applied equally among all the industries, such as, in the U.S. and Australia.
