Committees at AMCHAM

Bringing communities together, in a functional area of an industry sector, is central to the business of any Chamber.  At AMCHAM we would like to announce the formation of a new committee, Healthcare & Life Sciences (HLS) that will be led by Dave Mitchell, Managing Director, Boston Scientific Corporation, and Shakilla Shahjihan, Divisional Vice President, Government Affairs, Asia Pacific & Japan, Abbott Laboratories.

The purpose of this committee is to bring together members who are focused on areas like pharmaceuticals, medical devices, technology, and delivery and to be able to have open discussions on the development and opportunities within these sectors that is fast becoming one of the most active, globally.  They will focus not only on potential advocacy but on the sharing of best practices and networking of the members in the space, all the time, building stronger ties with related stakeholders through their engagement and programming.  This is the common theme of most committees at AMCHAM.

HLS Committee will join other communities like the AMCHAM Johor Network (AJN) which was set up in 2020, the Corporate Citizenship Committee (CCC), established in 2019, along with the Malaysian American Electronics Industry Committee (MAEI), started in 1978, now boasts 56 active companies in its ranks, and is the Chamber’s largest industry community.

This year, we also see a leadership change at MAEI. After an amazing 15 years heading up MAEI, long-standing chairman Dato’ Seri Wong Siew Hai is stepping down to focus on establishing a wider national platform, the Malaysian Semiconductor Association (MSIA) which will bring together all segments in the semiconductor value chain across the whole country.

Bret Funke, Senior Director, HP Malaysia Manufacturing, and Chew Pay Fern, Director, PM Business Operations Support of Flex Malaysia, have volunteered to take on the mantle as Co-Chairs of MAEI and restructure it to meet the needs and demands of this critical industry sector for American investors and the growth of the country in the face of rising competition and increased regional importance. We look forward to establishing a collaborative working relationship with MSIA as there will be a lot of synergy between the two organizations.

There are other groupings forming around Information Technology and the Digital Economy, Human Resources & Talent. If you are interested in participating or learning how you can get more involved in AMCHAM’s communities, please contact Elaine Wong, Government Relations Executive – Committees at [email protected] or at the AMCHAM Executive Office at  +603 2727-0070
