KUALA LUMPUR, May 12-13 & 19, 2012 – For three days, 100 final year Business, Law and Engineering students from five public universities have been ‘drilled’ in the principles of corporate citizenship and responsibility while participating in a Business Ethics boot camp designed to foster ethical decision-making in students as they prepare to enter the workforce.

The ExxonMobil Subsidiaries in Malaysia is sponsoring this programme for the second time after a successful pilot last year.

The 2012 participating universities are Universiti Malaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia and Universiti Putra Malaysia.

“ExxonMobil has a strong focus and commitment in contributing and investing in the communities where we operate through our community relations program. One of our priorities in this area is to enhance the national human capital development and growth through educational programs.

The Business Ethics Boot Camp program was developed in collaboration with AMCHAM with the objective to create an understanding on the importance of ethics in the corporate world among college students who are our future workforce and leaders,” said Farid Jaafar, Public and Government Affairs Manager, ExxonMobil Subsidiaries in Malaysia at the closing ceremony of the boot camp.

Also present were Guest of Honor, Dato’ Hajah Latifah binti Md Yatim, Deputy Commissioner, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and Datuk Nicholas S. Zefferys, Member of AMCHAM Board of Governors and Past President of AMCHAM.

The students engaged in highly interactive sessions where they learnt to recognise, analyse, and apply basic terminology, theories, and concepts common to the study of ethics. They explored their own ethical values and philosophy, established ethical priorities, recognised key ethical issues, and learnt to evaluate their decision-making process.

To consolidate their learnings, on the last day of the programme, the undergraduates were divided into groups and given case studies to resolve. Based on their performance, winners were awarded prizes at the closing ceremony.
