Activities

Business Briefings

The Chamber holds regular business briefings with companies who are new to Malaysia, and for others that are looking to invest in the country. These briefings are an opportunity for firms to get an in-depth perspective of the economic, political, and business climate in Malaysia, and to have a better understanding of the American community and resources that are available. These discussions, in which AMCHAM includes members from key sectors in which the potential investor or client is involved, also give companies an on-the-ground perspective for conducting business in Malaysia.

Congressional Briefings

When Congressional delegations visit Malaysia, AMCHAM works closely with the U.S. Embassy and other partners, such as the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS), to setup briefings for these officials. AMCHAM members are invited to participate in closed-door, candid discussions with these visitors on policies affecting business in Malaysia, as well as the impact of U.S. government regulations on Americans living and working abroad.

Leadership Presentations

Breakfast or lunch meetings with government and business leaders are held frequently to address current events and business-related issues. Speakers include ministers from the Malaysian government, visiting U.S. government dignitaries and Embassy officials, and senior executives from major international corporations.

Roundtables

Periodically, roundtable discussions and industry task forces are organized to examine areas of relevant interest to particular groups or industries, and to provide an opportunity for AMCHAM's members to engage industry experts and policy leaders in thought-provoking, engaging discussions.

Networking Opportunities

AMCHAM organizes networking events, inter-chamber cocktails, and other social activities monthly, as a way for members to meet new contacts and to broaden business networking opportunities. The Chamber also holds periodic sporting events, such as the Annual Ambassador’s Cup Golf Tournament in the Northern Region and in Kuala Lumpur.

Additionally, AMCHAM organizes several informational briefings/dialogues each month (e.g., breakfasts, luncheons, seminars), at which members can engage leading business executives and government officials in interactive dialogues.

Committees

AMCHAM also operates several industry committees, which hold scheduled and ad-hoc meetings, to discuss relevant issues, and pursue government advocacy strategies. The industry committees are very active in a variety of areas, in support of AMCHAM members from various industries. Many of these activities focus on discussing relevant legislation affecting American business interests with the Malaysian and U.S. governments. These committees also hold briefings and networking events of interest to member companies from those industries to act as avenues for networking and business collaboration.

Information Services

Where relevant, AMCHAM forwards U.S. Embassy updates on commercial, economic, or other activities in Malaysia to its members. AMCHAM also shares with its members the State Department's Warden Message System, which is designed to provide Americans living overseas with updates on security issues and travel advisories.

Publications

AMCHAM publications such as the directory and survey report are well read and widely respected. In addition to providing AMCHAM members with the editorial they want to read and use, the Chamber's publications are one of the most competitive advertising vehicles in Malaysia. AMCHAM publications reach thousands of leading business executives, government officials, in Malaysia and the U.S., the media and other relevant parties worldwide. With a total readership of over 1,500 business professionals, AMCHAM publications are the only publications targeted at the American-Malaysian business community.
